IC-CAP on the EWS machines

Many changes have occurred with ICCAPs since the release of v5.0. Newer HP715 have been installed in the lab, as well as HPUX 10.20. In addition, the EWS workstations have been upgraded to much faster Sun Ultra2 machines. To date, ICCAP only works on the HPs in the laboratory. The license manager is being updated on the Suns, which hopefully will be completed before the end of the semester.

In order to use ICCAP on the EWS machines, you must follow the Remote ICCAP X-sessions as follows. In addition, we recommend that you only remotely run ICCAP after 5pm or before 9am on weekdays.

Remote IC-CAP X-sessions

From all workstations other than the ECE344 machines, a remote x-session will have to be setup so ICCAP can be run from an ECE 344 machine, but displayed wherever you are. See http://fabweb.ece.uiuc.edu:1999/Software/UNIX/Remote.X-Sessions.html

During ECE 344 regular labs and open labs, remote ICCAP processes on ECE 344 lab machines are subject to being killed without warning. You can, however, set up a remote X-session with one of the Everitt Lab EWS machines anytime.

PROBLEMS?

  1. Check the ECE 344 newsgroup for late breaking news about problems.
  2. Try to contact your lab instructor.
  3. E-Mail ece344@uiuc.edu - all the lab instructors will get it and if they're online at the time, they will help you if they can.
  4. Contact the lab director ( Dane Sievers).
