npn_344 help
The ICCAP Instructions
contain the basic procedures for making measurements
and performing modeling.
This screen is intended to point out things unique
to using the npn_344.mdl model file.
Device Selection
You should measure one of the square emitter BJTs. The third BJT from the left on
the bottom row is recommended. Normally, you will be required to measure 3 such BJTs from
different device cells.
Probe Assignments
- SMU1/probe1/CM(H)---->Base
- SMU2/probe2---->Collector
- SMU3/probe3---->Emitter
- SMU4/probe4 is not used.
Note: CM(L) will have to be moved between the Collector(probe2) and Emitter(probe3)
as needed to complete the measurements.
Variables and Parameters
Entries under the following locations should be made or verified before
performing any extractions, simulations, or optimizations.
- Parameter Set | Edit.
- None to edit here, but look at them anyway.
- Model | Edit Variables.
- Edit for each DUT name.
- You may leave the area entered already alone for now.
Related Models
- linked_models/bjt_npn.mdl
- Sample Plots can be found by loading linked_models/bjt_npn.mdl using
MODEL | Read Model .
This model was bundled with ICCAP and contains setups which require instruments we
do not have in the lab (yet). The plots with the same names should show basically what
you should expect your
plots to look like (although the scales may be much different). I hope curiosity
will get you to explore the components which have been stripped out of the ECE 344 version, however.
Before
submitting your my_models.mdl file delete the "npn" model it added and resave.
- diodes_344
- This model tests the two diodes within the BJTs. It has no modeling incorporated into it.
It's intended to gather data over greater bias ranges than the main model and allow you
to input calculations and create plots in order to answer some of the questions for the
report. It will be most efficient if you make the measurements for this model while
you have a BJT measured. Make copies with the same naming scheme (diodes_1, diodes_2, and
diodes_3) test your devices.
Manual Excerpts
The npn_344.mdl model file is based on a model file included with ICCAP.
Excerpts from their manuals have been scanned in for viewing by uiuc.edu
machines (or soon will be).
